Brown Alumni Monthly

Subject

Brown University; Providence; New acquisitions; Campus expansion

Description

An issue of the Brown Alumni Magazine, housed in the Brown Digital Repository. It discusses the new land being bought in Providence and the university buildings that will be constructed. In the article there is no mention of the residents living near Brook St. and how their lives will be altered by the addition of college dorms in their neighborhood. It offers one line about the business owner who previously resided there, but lacks a true acknowledgement of the people who were displaced by the university buying up land, or others who will eventually be forced out by gentrification. The main focus is on the monetary inconveniences the developments will cause Brown and how they will improve the overall university. The object is an example of the lack of community voice representation in the institutional archive and how Brown has co-opted the land, narrative and archive.
